Tomasz Adamek trains hard for Eddie Chambers

User Rating:  / 0

There is only one month left before Tomasz Adamek’s (45-2, 28 KOs) fight with „Fast” Eddie Chambers (36-2, 18 KOs). The two will face off on Saturday night, June 16th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Adamek’s trainer Roger Bloodworth told us about the preparations.

“Tomasz has been sparring for two weeks. One of his sparring partners is Derric Rossy. Derric is a very good fighter who can really help Adamek, because the two met in the ring in 2011. Derric knows Chambers’ disadvantages and advantages.” Bloodworth said.

Bloodworth added that initially, Tomasz wanted to train with his last opponent, Nagy Aguilera. However, Aguilera was injured during their fight and he will not be able to enter the ring for at least five months.

“Another sparring partner is Tor Hamer. Adamek trains three times a week, then in the evening, he trains with physical conditioner Tyler Woodman. Three times a week, Adamek has a boxing training with me and in the evenings – he runs with me.”

Bloodworth added that every training for Adamek is another challenge and each training is something new.

“I have had many fighters, but Adamek is special, because he combines all the necessary elements which create a professional boxer. He is determined to become a heavyweight champion.”

When we asked Bloodworth if Adamek beats Chambers, he answered: “Certainly, he will not lose.”

Tickets are available at $254, $104, $79 and $59, phone number: 908-925-5540.

Junior welterweight prospect Ivan „Macanon” Cano (22-3, 15 KOs) scored a ten round unanimous decision over previously undefeated puncher Mauricio “El Trompas” Pintor (17-1-1, 11 KOs). Pintor is the nephew of Mexican ring legend Lupe Pintor. The event took place on Friday night at the Auditorio Plaza Condesa in Mexico City. Cano dropped Pintor in the first round. The referee deducted a point from Pintor in round three for hitting on the break. In round six, Pintor landed a rabbit punch and Cano needed 5 minutes to recover. With the win, Cano captured the vacant WBO and WBC Youth junior welterweight belts.

Amir Khan: Peterson should be punished for what he did

User Rating:  / 0

British junior welterweight fighter Amir Khan stated that compulsory drug testing needs to be introduced to the sport of boxing in order to clean up the discipline. Last December, Khan lost his WBA and IBF titles to Lamont Peterson via controversial split decision. The two were scheduled to rematch on May 19th in Las Vegas, however Peterson has failed to pass a random drug test and their bout was cancelled.

“It will take more than an apology for what happened last December, my life was at risk. One punch can change a fighter’s life. The way he kept coming forward after he was put down twice in the first round, the way he was recovering, I knew this was not the same Peterson I had been watching in videos, this guy was totally different. It was like fighting two people in the ring. I was hurting him and putting him down and he was still coming forward.” Khan said.

“I have fought big punchers like Marcos Maidana and other names out there and he seemed to punch harder, be a lot fitter than them. It just shows that performance enhancing drugs do make a difference and I saw the difference. He should be punished for what he did.”

Juan Manuel Marquez: Gesta is a young fighter, with speed, and he meets the profile.

User Rating:  / 0

WBO interim junior welterweight Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KOs) says that he is more interested in facing undefeated lightweight puncher Mercito Gesta (25-0-1, 13 KOs), than former four division world champion and ring legend Erik Morales. Marquez is scheduled to step into the ring on July 14th at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The 38-year-old Mexican who is planning another fight with boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao, added that he wants to fight a southpaw.

“There was talk of Gesta or Cuennnca. I want a left-handed opponent. Morales was discussed but if the fight with Pacquiao is made, I do not see a reason to fight with a right instead of facing an opponent who has the same guard of Pacquiao.” Marquez said in an interview with BoxingScene.com

“The important thing is to face an opponent with the characteristics of Pacquiao. Gesta is a young fighter, with speed, and he meets the profile. When I find out my opponent, I will also define my sparring partners, looking for left handed boxers with speed. Gesta is good, undefeated and meets the characteristics. I am in the strong stage of my training. It will last for one month and then I’ll begin with the speed.”

It is officially confirmed that a highly awaited fight between two controversial British warriors David Haye and Dereck Chisora will be for the WBO International and WBA Intercontinental belts. Promoter Frank Warren announced that the card will also feature WBA heavyweight world champion Alexander Povetkin who will make a defense of his title against former world champion Hasim Rahman.

President of WBO, Paco Valcarcel stated: “We have to go ahead and approve the fight. The Luxembourg Boxing Federation is a member of the WBO and the problem is between the LBF and the British Boxing Board of Control, not the LBF and the WBO.”
